Beverly Hills Affaire in the Gardens Art Show

This weekend, hundreds of accomplished artist are setting up booths on Santa Monica Blvd.’s lawns to display their objects. Everything from traditional paintings and sculptures will be displayed to glass work, jewelry, and crafts. As long as the event does not rain, although it tends to around this time every year, the event will be cheery and popular. The show consists of about 4 blocks worth of artists (or masters, as they are accomplished enough in their fields to merit the name). Even if you don’t plan on buying anything it’s more worthwhile of a trip to see these pieces of artwork than going to, oh, um, the Orange County Museum of Art (OCMA) . The majority of these artists have works displayed in high end galleries. Talk to the artists, they’re more than happy to discuss their work or their crafts. They’re all really nice.

When: October 20th and 21st

Time: 10am-5pm

Admission: Free

OC Pumpkin Patch in Costa Mesa

The Orange County Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa created their own baby-sized pumpkin patch in the corner of their parking lots. Open daily from 9am-9pm till November 3rd, this midget patch is actually kind of cute. It’s good for really young kids, as there are inflatable slides and bounces ($3 each or $12 for unlimited access). Westminster Mall’s pumpkin patch is an extravaganza compared to this one. But if pumpkins and a few minutes of attractions are all your looking for, enter the parking lot from Fairview Rd. and Arlington Dr. to enjoy.

Admission and parking are free.

Harvest Festival: Original Arts and Crafts Show in Anaheim

Friday through Sunday this weekend, the Harvest Festival displayed arts and crafts booths at the Anaheim Convention Center off Katella. Donate a non-perishable can to the Food Drive (booth adjacent to the entrance) and save $2 off General or Senior admission. Hilarious old men dressed as cowboys on fake horses gallop around the convention center, talking to people and just generally having the time of their lives. Inside the convention center (on the bottom floor, Room E), tens of booths sell all likes of handmade goods. There’s wood pieces, candles, a ton of holiday themed ornaments, clothes for all ages, candies, glassware, and jewelry. The snack foods are pretty overpriced (e.g. the beef jerky), even though they’re delicious. The chocolates are worth it though. Everything here is handmade, so think about the time and materials that went into each object, it will help explain a lot of the prices. There’s a cute kidzone sponsored by the Discovery Science Center, a stage for local bands and artists to perform, and a section of chairs for ‘The Bikini Chef’ to conduct a cooking demonstration. Overall, this place was a good time. Not many men around, though, mostly older woman with their kids. If they did bring their husbands, they were sitting at the tables reading newspapers and waiting. BUT, it’s totally enjoyable for both sexes, those men are just grumpy.

Hours:

Saturday: 10:00am-6:00pm

Sunday: 10:00am-5:00pm

Tickets:

Adult: $9

Senior (62+): $7

Youth  13-17: $4, under 12: Free
